Following our wonderful 2 week holiday, I’ve been back at work now for 3 days, and to be honest it hasn’t been as bad as I had feared, the ‘post holiday blues’ didn’t really materialise.
However, in my quiet moments, I am in the habit of slipping into a daydream, and thinking about what I was doing ‘this time last week’ or ‘two weeks ago’, etc., so in keeping with this habit, as I daydream I realise that a week ago we were relaxing at our apartment in Peyia with friends, drinking bubbles on our balcony, watching the sunset, before heading out to my favourite local Indian restaurant, ‘Poppadums’ – not the best name, but fantastic food! Two weeks ago, we were also with friends, taking in the varied sights of the small Italian city of Asti.
Perhaps one reason for avoiding the ‘post holiday blues’ is that in September, we here in Dubai get a 3 day break added on to the weekend of 9th / 10th, due to the local celebration of Eid Al Adha. Do we go away again? Decisions, decisions! The local press and social media sites are full of tempting offers to such wonderful places as The Maldives, Seychelles and Mauritius, all of which are in easy reach of Dubai.
We also mustn’t forget that although we live and work in Dubai, many people come here for their own holidays. Dubai is well known for its iconic tourist attractions such as the worlds tallest building, the world’s only 7 star hotel, and its ginormous shopping malls, but this week, on 31st August, a new attraction opens in the shape of the worlds ‘Largest Indoor Theme Park’ – IMG Worlds of Adventure! Here, you can:
“Ride our adrenaline-pumping attractions based on iconic MARVEL superhero favorites including Spider-Man, The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and The Avengers…”
And no doubt much more – I know one teenager who will be eager to visit the park when he stays with us over the Christmas holidays! If you have read my previous post on comfort vs speed, you’ll know how much I’m really looking forward to those rides 🙂
So in true ‘hair of the dog’ fashion, it seems the best way to avoid the post holiday blues, is to immediately have another one …. see you on the beach!
