Agiou Georgiou (St. George) is a gorgeous fishing village located just a short drive from Paphos, in Cyprus. We love to come here every time we get the chance to visit this wonderful Island, the views are stunning and so different from the typical seaside picture postcard images of many coastal resorts.
It’s a quiet place, not heaving with tourists, which is for me another great attraction; you park your car, then just wander – from the picturesque Church of St George, overlooking the sea, down to the rock pools and harbour area, taking in the sights of this very special place.
Just off the coast is the tiny island of Yeronisos, also known as ‘Holy Island’, a dramatic location that has a history dating back to when Cleopatra ruled Cyprus. Today it adds drama to those who try to photograph the beauty of this unique area.
If you prefer your touristy locations to be smart and pristine, then Agiou Georgiou might not be a favourite for you – the area is a little unkempt, but in my view this adds to its charm.
So, if you get the opportunity to visit Paphos, then I would definitely recommend making the trip to Agiou Georgiou; take your camera, and sturdy walking shoes as the rock pool areas can be somewhat uneven, especially if your balancing skills, like mine, are not that great!
A really cool drone video showing the area, especially Yeronisos can be seen here.
