Taking advantage of a rare trip back to Dubai this Summer, we decided to celebrate the opportunity to spend time together, and have a romantic weekend at the gorgeous Waldorf Astoria, located on the wonder that is Palm Jumeirah.
The Waldorf Astoria is truly a five star experience, everything from the warm welcome, to the sumptuous room, and wonderful food (and drink!), it was just the most perfect weekend staycation venue, we couldn’t have picked better.
OK, so if you’re going to do something like this, it has to be done right, so we booked a superior king room, with (stunning) sea views, located on the 5th floor of the hotel, which happens to be the highest. The room also came with access to the club lounge, allowing us to enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktails and canapés, all served in the privacy of the lounge by a team of excellent staff, who really did everything they could to ensure each visit was perfect.
In and around the Hotel
As the priority for the weekend was to relax, we didn’t do a great deal of exploring, but we did manage to venture to one of the two hotel pools, choosing to spend time at the adult only pool (what a great idea!), although we both found the water to be rather cool! A later dip in the sea offered a vastly different experience, as the sea water was as warm as a bath, wonderful!
Walking around the extensive grounds gave me the opportunity to take a number of photos, including at the hotel’s unique herb and spice garden, where they take pride in growing their own produce, some of which we were to sample later in the day.
Dinner at Social by Heinz Beck
For an extra special treat, we decided to dine at the hotel’s gourmet Italian restaurant, Social, by 3 star Michelin Chef, Heinz Beck.
We also agreed, that in order to enjoy our dinner as much as possible, no phones would be allowed, so I’m afraid no pictures are available! Nonetheless, it was a fantastic evening, with every morsel of food delighting both the eyes and the tastebuds.
We were welcomed with a perfectly chilled glass of prosecco, and a tray of delicious canapés, which we enjoyed as we placed our order. We both chose the Lobster Medallion, with Avocado and Tomatoes to start, then Mel had the special of the day, which was linguine with truffle (she adores truffle!), and I had seafood risotto.
Every dish was just wonderful, the service faultless, the whole experience was simply excellent. If you find yourself in Dubai, and love Italian food, then I can’t recommend the restaurant highly enough.
All to soon, the weekend came to a close, we ended our time in the hotel with a selfie on the balcony, a lovely memory of the perfect weekend. As we drove the 15 minutes back to our apartment, we were able to reflect on spending some quality time together, away from the endless emails and calls – they would return soon enough, but this was a weekend that will stay with us for some time to come.
