… to expatsteveblog!

What qualifies me to call the blog ‘Expat Steve’? Well, I’m a native Englishman, and have lived as an expat for some 15 years. In that time I’ve been based in Saudi Arabia, The Netherlands, Australia, The Republic of Congo, Qatar, and now I share my time between Kuwait and Dubai, UAE. Oh, and yes, my name is Steve!

My career has been spent in the airline and travel industry, where I work in roles linked to commercial and financial systems – it’s been an exciting and fulfilling career that has taken me to numerous countries across the globe from Australia to Zambia, and enabled me to meet and work with some amazing people from a vast range of cultures and backgrounds.

I share my life with my wonderful wife Melanie (affectionately referred to as ‘Mrs E’ in my posts), who puts up with this lifestyle and almost never complains! I also have 2 grown up sons and a teenage step-son, who are a constant source of pride, and that I miss terribly.

Through the blog I plan to share a little of what we experience, both the good and bad, and would love to hear what others think of being an expat, whether you are a seasoned expat veteran, or maybe considering an overseas posting for the first time, perhaps you think that leaving your home country is the most daft idea imaginable! All views welcome 🙂

  1. You’ve been to so many places that I’m filled with so much envy now just by reading and looking at the photos lol! It’s always nice to see and gain new insights and knowledge to places via the perspective of another so thank you for sharing 😉

Don’t think I see you in any of the photos that I’ve browsed through though. Am I right to assume that you’ve not posted a picture of yourself up on the blog?? Just curious hah!

    Your pal,

  2. Thanks Benjamin – I really appreciate your comments. As a newbie to this, any words are very gratefully received, and if they are positive, then all the better. Yes, I consider myself very lucky and privileged to have been to so many places, life has been good.

As far as I recall, there are 2 pics of me on the blog, one of which I know you saw.

    All the best,

    1. Thanks for your comment 🙂 in fact I have visited Taipei a few times back in the late 90s, staying at the Lai Lai Sheraton. I’ve been to a few other places in the region, including Manila, which I blogged about recently. I always enjoy being in Asia, great food and people, although it does tend to rain a lot!
